The end of July once again brought with it one of the most anticipated events in the STORTEC calendar – our annual Family Fun Day! We once again gathered at the beautiful Thornton Hall Country Park for a day that was all about connection, celebration, and saying a heartfelt thank you to the people who make STORTEC what it is: our incredible employees and their families.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Yorkshire countryside, Thornton Hall Country Park offers the perfect venue for a day packed with fun and relaxation. There was something for everyone – from soft play zones for our youngest guests to pony rides and caterpillar rides that brought smiles to faces of all ages. The jumping pillows were a hit once again, while the chance to meet and feed the animals gave many children (and quite a few grown-ups!) some truly memorable moments.

No fun day would be complete without delicious food and sweet treats – and we had plenty of both. With ice cream in hand and laughter in the air, the day captured the spirit of what makes the STORTEC community so special: teamwork, togetherness, and a shared appreciation for each other.

More than just a day out, the Family Fun Day is STORTEC’s way of recognising the hard work, dedication, and commitment that every single employee brings to the table, day in and day out. We know that behind every great team member is a supportive family, and this event is just one small way we say thank you – not just to our employees, but to their loved ones too.

As we look ahead to the rest of the year, we do so with a deep sense of gratitude and pride in our STORTEC family. Here’s to many more celebrations, shared successes, and sunny days together!

2024 saw us support grass roots football teams ranging from under 8’s through to veteran teams, a local junior boxing champion, Clitheroe Contemporary arts festival and Bowland High School to support their year 7’s ‘Race to the Line STEM Challenge’ to name a few.

Aside from this we also pledged to support various charities and last year alone we supported Pendleside Hospice in their annual ‘Corporate Challenge’ in which we were lucky enough to win an award! We also supported Lancashire MIND and the MOVEMBER movement.

BECAUSE WE ARE A SMALL BUSINESS WITH A BIG HEART!

To do these things we believe strengthens the community and the people within it. Not just now, but for the future. Without businesses supporting these things, unfortunately they may not be possible. We should all support the next generation.

STORTEC has been fully committed throughout the Pendleside Hospice Corporate Challenge 2024 from the very start. We were so excited to share with everyone that we had taken on the challenge and seek support!

With the Born Survivor challenge being our main event; an elite military obstacle course designed by marines commandos, our team of 13 lit up the course, all kitted out in our yellow Pendleside T-Shirts, shining with pride at the start although we were a rather muddy yellow as we all crossed the finish line!

We were soaked to the bone, cold, bruised and came away with the spoils of war! It was not for the faint-hearted! Through the rough terrain of the Ribble Valley, cold mud pools, rat tunnels, 40mph water slides, plunge pools and climbing over difficult structures, a true demonstration of teamwork was required. In our day-to-day business, we pride ourselves on not shying away from a challenge, it was great to see this dedication transfer into the event.

Aside from this, we have held a tea, coffee and cake morning from a staff member’s home which alone, brought in over £300!

We also held a pub quiz night at the Lamb WMC in Barrowford, which was a great success with 8 teams participating. This event saw us raise over £200 in ticket sales and cash donations on the night.

Another fantastic event we held was our annual STORTEC Family Fun Day, to show our appreciation for our TEAM here at STORTEC, where family members, friends and children could all join in. This year we held our event at Thornton Hall Country Park and tied in our fundraising for the Corporate Challenge into the day. It was also a fantastic opportunity to trap our senior management and Directors in the stocks, where they all well and truly got an absolute soaking! This event pulled in over £1,500!

On Friday 1^st November our team went to the Pendleside Corporate Challenge Awards evening and were presented with the ‘Small Business of the Year’ award! STORTEC alone brought in a grand total of £5,448.83 and we could not be any prouder!

We have all thoroughly enjoyed our journey throughout the Challenge over the last 4 months and are extremely proud of our TEAM for all their support, involvement and commitment.

As June drew to a close, it was STORTEC’s opportunity to hold our annual summer Family Fun Day. An event organised by the business to express our appreciation to our team and their families for their support. It is an opportunity for employees to bring along their children, families and friends. This year’s event was held on Sunday 30th June at the beautiful Thornton Hall Country Park on the outskirts of Skipton.

Over 80 people attended our event to roam the farm, meet the animals, and enjoy food, drinks and much more! Most of the team agree that the highlight from the day was getting our Directors and Managers in the stocks for a good old soaking!

Combined with the family fun day, we also held a raffle in support of raising funds for Pendleside Hospice. Along with the small donations placed for having our Management placed in the stocks, we were able to raise an incredible £450 in donations towards our Corporate Challenge! 

Our annual Family Fun Day event is a great way of getting everyone together outside of the usual day to day business. It’s a chance for team building and an opportunity to mix with people you may not cross paths with too much at work. Our team are hardworking, work away from home and their lives outside of the business support this, their families support their efforts as we do and it is in recognition of this that STORTEC holds events such as this. 

Most importantly as a business, we are proud of our team, we would like to express a huge thank you to all our employees for their continuous hard work and efforts. Without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today!

Pendleside Hospice cares for local people in the Burnley and Pendle area who are diagnosed with any life limiting illness, their families and carers. Care is provided free of charge by their in-patient unit, day service and outpatients, family support and hospice at home team. The cost of providing care is almost £5.5m this year alone. A grant from the NHS provides a little over £1m to their running costs and as a registered charity Pendleside must raise over £4.5m from fundraising events, sponsorship and donations annually.

Just think about that for a moment….

With many businesses joining forces and taking part in this fantastic cause, we want to raise as much as we possibly can. No matter how big or small, every penny helps.

STORTEC TEAM members are taking part in the ‘Born Survivor’ challenge designed by Royal Marines Commandos this September in Gisburn. The elite military inspired obstacle course is not for the faint hearted, enduring the muddiest rolling terrain, reinforced with military grade obstacles in the Ribble Valley. We wont just go home with cuts, bruises and aching muscles, every survivor takes home the spoils of war! So, keep your eyes peeled for news on how we did and the photo evidence!

STORTEC are also holding a local quiz night at the Lamb WMC in Barrowford on Wednesday 31^st July at 8:00pm for everyone to get involved in and raise further funds. Tickets are £2.00 on the door and there is no pre-sale of tickets.

There will be other opportunities within STORTEC HQ and locally between 1st June and 30^th September to build up as many donations as we possibly can. Raffle tickets are also available to purchase.

Moving forward to 2024, STORTEC are proud to announce that they have been selected as Finalists in 5 categories and can’t wait for all the exciting things to come. The ‘Judges on Tour’ will carry out their visits to STORTEC HQ before the awards ceremony takes place in September at the famous Blackpool ‘Winter Gardens’.

STORTEC are proud to have been selected again and hope they have showcased enough to bring home a truly deserved award. This is reflected in the TEAM ethos, driven culture, sustainable & innovative products as well as their commitment to the industry and expertise in project delivery.

As finalists in Apprentice Team of the Year, Construction Business of the Year, Global Business of the Year, Medium Business of the Year and Manufacturer of the Year, to come away with an award would be a huge achievement for the TEAM having only been established since 2018. In this short time STORTEC have generated over £75m turnover, installed and delivered over 700 global projects, with 51 employees and 300 years combined industry knowledge and experience between the TEAM.
